15The FFI Fly Fishing expo 2019 was held July 23-27 at Montana State University in Bozeman Montana. After having a great time fishing and exploring Montana and Yellowstone National Park, it was time for the show. However, we had a small problem. We were on the way to the show and had a minor motor vehicle accident.
13Just got back from a 4000-mile roundtrip to the FFI Flyfishing Fair in Bozeman, Montana. For the first four days, Michael Ames, Boot Pierce and I fished the rivers around Bozeman and in Yellowstone Park.
59The Haystack is an easy to tie dry fly that is very effective. Designed by Fran Betters in 1948 and described in his book Fly Fishing — Fly Tying and Pattern Guide published in 1986. The Author describes the Haystack as “an all purpose dry fly that imitates a majority of the insects that trout feed on.”

55Improved Montana Stonefly
The Montana Stonefly is one of the first stonefly patterns taught to beginning fly tyers. Originally the fly was tied with chenille for a body. The improved version uses wool yarn and a better imitation of a real stonefly. I have modified the pattern to use biot tails.
