21The FFI Fly Fishing expo 2019 was held July 23-27 at Montana State University in Bozeman Montana. After having a great time fishing and exploring Montana and Yellowstone National Park, it was time for the show. However, we had a small problem. The Montana Stonefly is one of the first stonefly patterns taught to beginning fly tyers. Originally the fly was tied with chenille for a body. The improved version uses wool yarn and a better imitation of a real stonefly. I have modified the pattern to use biot tails.
