The Fly Fishing Expo in Branson, MO occurred this last weekend. Sponsored by the White River Fly Fishers and spear headed by Dennis Stead and other volunteers, it was a big success. It seemed to me to be bigger than last year. As usual I got to see a lot of old friends and make new ones.
I had the pleasure of visiting with Cecil “Woody” Woodman. Cecil is unique in that he ties small, think size 32, flies and fishes them. Here is a picture of him with his fly box.

Cecil “woody” Woodman
He usually uses a zero weight rod and 10x or smaller tippet. He tied one for me but I must admit that I could never see well enough to be able to attach my tippet. Never-the-less it was interesting to watch him tie. He also used special head cement that he sells. The cement smells solvent bases. What was special about it was the wire applicator. Rather than run down the wire and form a large drop, it formed beads along the wire so that a very small amount is applied to the head of the fly.
Michael Ames and I both tied at the show. Here is a picture of Michael kissing Charles. I’m not sure he liked it!

Next years show will be July 24-25, 2026, I’ll see you there.
