The FFI Fly Fishing expo 2019 was held July 23-27 at Montana State University in Bozeman Montana. After having a great time fishing and exploring Montana and Yellowstone National Park, it was time for the show. However, we had a small problem. We were on the way to the show and had a minor motor vehicle accident.
No one was hurt, and the car had only minor damage. However, we did have o spend some time at the hospital. Boot got to tie, but Michael and I did not. I learned a few things about Bozeman. Deaconess Hospital is first class. Both the facilities and staff were excellent. They also have a free transportation system. The bus routes all run to the University, so I was able to go from the hospital to the show even without a car. The car was in the shop having the breaks and headlight repaired. I wasn’t able to take a lot of pictures at the show because my camera and bag were in the car. Never the less, I was able to attend one afternoon session of the show. I was disappointed in the number of vendors, and half of the tying seats were empty. I was able to visit with some old friends, Bob Kern, Dutch Baughman, Unk Smith, and others. Molly Semenik was at the author’s booth. I got her to sign a copy of her book, 25 Best Off-the-Beaten-Path Montana Fly Fishing Streams, for me. On my first trip to Montana, Michael Ames and I stayed at her house in Livingston on the Yellowstone River.
Next year the Expo will be held in Bozeman again. I think that we will try and stay at one of the hotels on the bus route so that we won’t have to drive around as much.
