Zonker Leech
The Zonker Leech is an easy-to-tie effective fly. In small sizes, it may represent a swimming mayfly nymph; in medium sizes, a leech and in larger sizes, a baitfish. No matter what sizes you tie, it looks like food to the fish.

Sowbug 2022
The 2022 Sowbug Roundup was held this past weekend after a 2 year absence. At the show, I raffled off a fly box with flies. Deb McFarland won the fly box.

Urban Fishing Florida
I had a hard time getting my fishing in for February. It was a short month with cold weather and ice at the end of the month. In addition, I was down with a cold for a week. But on the last day of the month, the weather turned nice with 65-degree temps. So I went to Craighead lake to fish. I didn’t catch anything, but I was able to practice my casting for an hour.
However, David Weingold and Michael Ames flew to Boca Raton, Florida, to fish for bass.

Bream Fly
Like everyone else, I make New Years Resolutions every year. You know, the usual, be
healthier, exercise more, lose weight. But somehow, I can never keep them. So this year is going to be different. My resolution this year is to go fishing at least one time a month, minimum.

I recently traveled to New Jersey to attend the International Fly Tying Symposium. If you have never been, I would highly recommend it. It was well attended, and there were some excellent fly tiers, including Fly Tyer magazine’s Fly Tyer of the Year, Barry Ord Clake. I especially enjoyed drinking coffee and talking to some of the tiers at 6 am in the hotel lobby. Read More

Bodkin Cleaner
When tying, I use my bodkin to pick out dubbing fibers, trapped hackle fibers, poke holes in things, and add head cement to whip finishes. As a result, it gets gunky and needs to be cleaned.

Michael Lack Tying
The Branson Fly Fishing Expo was held this last weekend. It was canceled last year because of COVD. Unfortunately because of the COVID Delta variant attendance was down. There were few vendors, slightly more fly tyers, and an occasional visitor. However, I had a great time. I was able to tie a lot of flies and give them away. I was also able to visit every vendor and tier. As usual, I never fail to learn something. I got to see several old friends and make new ones. Isn’t that what the show is really about. I’ll be there next year!
